Is electricity down in your area? Check the status of power interruptions near you on this page.
Whether you're in Auckland, Christchurch, Wellington, Whangarei, or other areas in New Zealand, here's a list of energy companies' contact numbers to call when you're experiencing a power outage in your home or place of business.
When your power services go down, look up your local line company to report the outage. The most common are Vector, Unison, and Powerco. Your power company will be very busy with calls during this time, so if you don’t get a reply then there’s no need to worry.
Power cuts are not as common today as they once were, but it’s still expected that New Zealanders will experience power cuts from time to time. Power cuts often occur during an outage or in particularly inclement weather conditions.
Power outage information can be acquired from your power service provider—we recommend contacting them as soon as you experience a power outage to get all the information you need. Your local line service company is responsible for repairs in your area, so any repair questions should be directed to them. In the event of an unexpected power outage, do not panic and calmly follow the instructions of your service provider.
It’s common for power cuts to only last for a few hours—though if the conditions are particularly bad, outages may last longer than expected. Once your services are back on, your power should return without any necessary action from you.
If there is a power outage in your area, glimp will be able to provide information on things like where it is and how long your services will be down for. Unexpected power outages are not anything out of the ordinary, and there is no reason to be worried if your services don’t come back on immediately.
Power is an essential utility, so it's a hassle when power outages happen. Get rid of this in your household by getting the best deal out of your power plan.
If there were to be a power outage today, the best thing you can do would be to carry on as normal and wait for your services to come back on. If you have someone in your home who urgently relies on power for medical reasons, contact your local emergency services.
When the power is back on, your services should resume as normal without any required action from you. If you have any questions, get in contact with your power provider to find out what you need to know. If some areas of your house are still without power, you may need to reset a fuse.
If you experience a power cut in a major city (Auckland, Christchurch, Wellington), your local line services will set about restoring it as soon as possible. This should be the case for medium-sized towns as well. For smaller towns, you may need to consult your power company for information on when your services will return.
Your provider may have an online update system to advise you on the status of your power, otherwise, you should contact them over the phone.
Power cuts usually last for one to four hours, though this may extend if conditions are particularly bad.
