If you're looking for a reliable broadband solution in New Zealand for your business, ICONZ Broadband might be a great option.

In this review, we provide helpful information regarding ICONZ Broadband, from its launch to its acquisition and merger.

What Is ICONZ Broadband?

ICONZ stands for Internet Company of New Zealand Limited. It's a prominent internet service provider (ISP) based in New Zealand, offering broadband services to residential and business customers. They provide high-speed internet connectivity using various technologies, including digital subscriber line (DSL), fibre-optic, and wireless connections.

Now 30 years in operation, ICONZ (now ICONZ Limited) has innovated from offering internet solutions to full-fledged cloud hosting services for businesses. Their tailored plans meet the higher demands of small and medium enterprises.

They also offer complementary services such as web hosting, email hosting, and domain registration. This further enhances their value proposition for businesses seeking comprehensive online solutions.

When Was ICONZ Broadband Launched?

Launched in 1992, ICONZ Broadband started as an ISP in Auckland, New Zealand, providing internet connectivity services to residential and business customers.

ICONZ Acquisition, Merger, & Rebranding

Acquisition by AsiaOnLine and Rebranding

In 1999, AsiaOnline acquired ICONZ and transformed it into a Pacific-based ISP. The company rebranded to AsiaOnline and became a part of a multinational company with offices across the Pacific Rim.

Merger and Expansion

After AsiaOnline went into liquidation in 2001, the Spencer family purchased the New Zealand portion of the company. They reinstated the original ICONZ branding.

Under Michael Spencer's leadership, he merged the AsiaOnline operations with his existing ISP businesses: E3 and VISP, and centralized its operations to ICONZ House in Auckland

In the following years, ICONZ expanded its services and acquired several other businesses, including Free Parking, 2day.com, and WebFarm.

Investment in Webvisions and Acquisition

The Spencer family invested significantly in Webvisions, a Pan-Asian hosting company headquartered in Singapore, in 2006.

The partnership evolved, leading to ICONZ's acquisition of Webvisions in 2012. Both companies operated as one entity, known as ICONZ-Webvisions Pte Ltd.

Rebranding to ICONZ Limited

In 2015, the New Zealand branch of ICONZ-Webvisions was rebranded to ICONZ Limited, separating ICONZ from the Webvisions brand.

Acquisition by Plan B

Plan B, a New Zealand-based company specializing in data security and business continuity, acquired ICONZ Limited in 2016. Plan B works with businesses in New Zealand and internationally to protect their data, infrastructure, and operations from unexpected events.

ICONZ'a service offerings and scale might be overwhelming for small businesses with limited IT needs and resources. It primarily caters to businesses of varying sizes, most of which are large enterprises.

Also, the pricing structure of these enterprise-grade solutions might not be cost-effective or feasible for smaller businesses with constrained budgets. If you are facing this issue, check out this article on how to save money on broadband.

No Residential Broadband Plan

While ICONZ broadband previously offered internet services to residents and businesses, its current offerings focus more on the commercial sector. This could be a challenge if you're looking for a single solution for your home and office.

Is ICONZ Broadband Worth It?

ICONZ can be a reliable solution for you if your business requires high-scale internet and IT solutions. Their services cover all possible areas, from data to cloud management and maintenance. However, they might not be suitable for residential or small business use.

I was a little hesitant to stay on the call when I first picked up but I’m glad I stayed until I did. Josua Legavai was the lovely lady taking care of me. She was so friendly, clear and helpful. She helped me understand everything I needed to and explained everything with great detail. I am still young and learning and have just moved into a new home with my son so I’m grateful she was able to help me today.

I'm so happy I asked Glimp for help, to find a service provider that suits our family's budget, without losing quality and unlimited data on both our mobile phones and broadband. Mele Falahola is a Comparison Specialist from Glimp and she was amazing from the beginning. Mele located the right service provider for our needs that will save us money!, fulfil our usage and more! compared to what we were using. My wife and I even asked for a comparison on our electricity bill. Mele responded immediately once she saw our monthly bills and compared it to another provider that not only do not required a contract to stick too (like the mobile and broadband provider Mele recommended) but their price per kWh was so much better! Which is why we changed that also. Thank you Mele and Glimp for your help. We can now look forward to our Christmas holiday in the Cook Islands from what we can now save. :-)
