Wireless Nation - Broadband Provider Interview

This month we are interviewing Wireless Nation, one of the broadband providers that we have on glimp. They are an innovative business that has focused on solving connectivity problems ​both in the rural sector and in urban centers. We hope you enjoy :) 

Can you please give us a bit of background on your company?

Wireless Nation ​is an innovative business and ​was founded in 2005 by Technical Director Tom Linn in response to the larger ISPs unwillingness to provide services to New Zealand’s rural sector. After securing initial funding, the company started delivering satellite broadband to rural customers in late 2006.

Since then, the company has focused on solving connectivity problems ​both in the rural sector and in urban centers ​and bringing these innovative solutions to market. ​They include Wireless over Fibre and Cable over Fibre solutions that enable super fast broadband to be easily installed in multi-dwelling units and Wireless over Satellite, which provides the Chatham Islands with fast, reliable internet.

While Wireless Nation now provides fast broadband anywhere in New Zealand, its focus is still on connecting rural New Zealand and bridging the growing digital divide.

As a company, what do you pride yourself on?

​Excellence in customer service, having a great solid infrastructure delivering fast and reliable broadband to our commercial and residential customers and most importantly providing broadband anywhere in NZ even in the most difficult and remote spots via our cutting edge satellite technology. Our satellite equipment is already capable of delivering speeds of up to 34 Mbps down and 2 Mbps up, so when government funding for this technology comes in or if business customers want this service, we can just buy more bandwidth from the satellite operators and get such satellite broadband speeds to the market overnight.

What kind of services do you provide?

​We provide a wide variety of internet connectivity options: ADSL​, VDSL, Fibre, Fixed Wireless (RBI), Satellite, Point to Point and Point to Multipoint as well as other specialised solutions such as our high speed low cost apartment broadband "Cable over Fibre" (CoF). We service both residential and commercial customers.

Where do you provide your services?

​Due to our mix of technology, which includes satellite broadband, we can provide fast and reliable broadband anywhere in New Zealand.​

What sets you apart from other providers?

​We are an innovative business that does not only offer mass market products but also engineers commercial custom solutions. Interesting examples are Mobile Health, Civil Defense, Pure Pods and Hobbition Movie Set. Despite little marketing spend, we experience strong growth with an ever increasing residential and commercial customer base who recommend our service to their contacts.
