Social Capital founder Chamath Palihapitiya thinks that the Model 3 will dominate the market, and not only the EV category, but the midsize car one as well. Palihapitiya believes that “people are fundamentally misunderstanding the demand of the Model 3” and that the BMW 3-Series will suffer a bitter defeat.
“There is not a single person of right, sound mind and body, if you could build a Tesla Model 3 online and get it delivered in 30, 60, 90 days, or you have the choice of buying the BMW 3-Series will choose the BMW,” Palihapitiya said.
To raise the bet, Tesla has updated its dedicated Tesla Motors app to include support for the Model 3. Tesla’s app offers numerous features, notably voice control (the car can be “summoned” if Autopilot is used), tracking of the car’s location, the ability to lock or unlock the EV, and the ability to control the ventilation system. One huge benefit is that the app allows the owner to remotely check on/change the charging status.
Further on, the Model 3 will be able to use Tesla's Supercharger network at no cost. The Supercharger network is, in case you didn’t know, unique to Tesla. The manufacturer has claimed that Superchargers will double by the end of 2017.
