While broadband connections in New Zealand are getting better, it can still be challenging to get good broadband coverage through all the nooks and crannies of your home. You may get an excellent connection in your living room, only to get a poor connection in your kitchen.
Having a poor connection is a constant struggle that Kiwis have to deal with in their home… but the good news is – it doesn’t have to be! You can skip those quirky tips and hacks that you’ve tried before; there are permanent solutions to get a stable connection throughout your home.
If you’re sick and tired of having difficulties downloading or streaming content in certain spots of your home, read more about how you can fix the problem here.
This may seem like the easiest permanent fix if you have plenty of money to spend on a new plan. However, most of us don’t want to cash out another large sum of money just for another broadband plan. Between choosing to spend money on another broadband plan, or using the internet only in your living room, it’s likely that most Kiwis would choose the latter.
Fortunately, this isn’t only the permanent solution that you can do. There’s a cheaper fix, and you don’t have to do it every month! And best of all, you don’t have to be an engineer to perform these fixes either!
It may be a matter of placement; that’s why your broadband isn’t delivering the best speeds! Try moving it away from the cupboard or away from other electronic devices. Obviously, you can’t move your kitchen or your bathroom to adjust your broadband connection, right?
Perhaps, a quick restart of your modem may help with your connection. Sometimes, since the network is too congested, it can be difficult for your broadband router to deliver signals to all your devices. If these fixes still didn’t work, then you may need to buy something for a more permanent fix.
If your router is a little old, then you may have to upgrade to a modem with the latest technology for better connectivity. As it’s a technological device, just like mobile phones and desktop computers, it’s essential to update it regularly as well.
Generally, it’s advisable to upgrade every 2-3 years. If you also partner it with a mesh router, then it’s almost a guarantee that you can have an excellent connection throughout your home. A mesh router scans the topography of your house, and then scatters the signals evenly.
Once you have a new router, it’s almost guaranteed that you can get rid of your unstable internet connection. To get this, you may need to contact your broadband provider to see if you can get an upgraded modem, or have a mesh router installed at your home.
While you’re at it, you can also check with your provider to see if you can upgrade your broadband connection from a copper line to fibre. Its speeds are worlds away, and fibre plans are just as affordable as ADSL or VDSL connections! To check if you can get fibre in your area, you can use our broadband comparison tool here at glimp.

I’ve just had a great experience with Kurt from glimp compare. He helped me through the process from the time I clicked onto the website, via the chat function. Long story short I have signed up to a new power and broadband provider with significant cost savings. There was no pressure at any stage, just respectful guidance and facilitation to initiate the new supply.
Easiest service to use and knowledgeable and experienced staff. Made switching power and broadband stress free! Thanks Jamie S, they answered all my questions I had about starting a new connection for broadband and power - even better than calling Slingshot direct as I got 3 months free internet and credit for using my own modem :)
Virtually instant contact after filling out online form. Great rep - friendly and informative, great deal made for cheaper power, overall so far so good 😁
Thank you Glimp and Larry G for helping me today. Larry contacted me real quick to answer my questions and help me with my trouble about the Power provider. He also explained to me what are the difference between my current and the new provider. Thank you!
very confusing. I signed up, completed my details and it was sent to Stuff. I then get notified to sign up on Stuff, so I do that and get an order notification. I then get an email an hour later from Glimp asking me to complete my order by following the link, and to hurry so as not to miss out. I am then taken to a Stuff page again to complete an order that is not the order I signed up for, i.e. 4 months half price not the 6 months half price I agreed to. So I have no idea now what the status is and what deal stuff think I am on.
