Not all electricity companies offer the same package deal to homes and businesses in NZ. There are certain factors that determine how much they charge, which includes the following:
Considering that demand for electricity changes frequently, supply needs to change as well in order to match it.
Kiwis go through daily and seasonal patterns with power consumption usually highest during winter, the time when people use heating in their houses. While this is true in some areas, other regions may have a higher demand on hot summer days. This happens when farmers use large irrigation pumps or when turning on air-conditioning.
Genesis Energy is one of the leading and largest energy providers in NZ with over 650,000 customer base nationwide. They retail electricity and gas through their main retail brands namely Genesis and Energy Online.
To give customers reliable and affordable services, they generate electricity from a varied portfolio of thermal and renewable properties in many parts of the country. Additionally, Genesis has a 46% in the Kupe Joint Venture, which owns and supports the Kupe Oil and Gas Field offshore of Taranaki, NZ.
Genesis energy rates are based on two main factors. One is your current address and the number of occupants at your place. You can choose between their Low and Standard User rates to determine which Genesis Energy Plan is the right one for you.
Genesis Power Shout is a ‘thank-you’ perk for signing up with Genesis Energy. This gives you the power to customise your free electricity to whatever time suits you. No more worries about the spike in costs as the total power usage will be credited back to you on your next invoice.
Other than adjusted power rates and discounts, you can also get Flybuys rewards for the energy you use daily, which points you can use for travelling and purchasing kitchen tools and equipment like an air fryer, speakers or even a wristwatch, if available.
This is the Genesis power app that allows you to monitor your energy consumption using your phone. By signing up to Energy IQ you can start tracking your electricity consumption and get an idea of how much power you’ll use up in the following week. This also helps you to stay on top of your energy usage per month.
This is Genesis’ cost-effective power plan best for homes that use 8,000kWh or less of electricity per year. For those located in the South Island regions, you can select this plan if you’re using less than 9,000kWh a year.
