5G is rolling out fast in New Zealand — and so are the conspiracy theories behind it! You’ve probably heard anywhere from getting cancer and brain tumour to using it for the government’s propaganda, and all the crazy stuff… but are they really true?
If you want to know more about 5G, we got you here at glimp! We debunk 5 of the most common myths that Kiwis have about it.
Amidst the rising cases of COVID-19 worldwide, 5G has been the centre of blame. However, there’s not even one evidence that can support this theory.
Coronavirus — or viruses of any kind — can only spread through small droplets from the nose or mouth of the host. Unless you’ve had close or direct contact with a carrier or a COVID-19 patient, then you don’t have to worry about getting the illness — even if you use 5G!
The most possible reason why 5G has been blamed is because it started rolling out just in time when the virus started spreading. However, different countries and big tech companies have long scheduled 5G to roll out in 2020, even before the first known case of COVID-19.
As foolish as it may sound, there’s actually a basis why people think of 5G this way. According to the 2000 graph released by physicist Dr. Bill P. Curry, there was an alarming increase in microwave absorption by the brain at higher radio frequencies.
As 5G uses millimetre radio waves — which are 10 to 100 times higher than 4G — safety concerns have been raised about the use of this technology. However, many scientists have debunked this theory as Dr Curry failed to consider the “shielding effect” or the skin’s ability to block high radio frequencies.
Sustained exposure to 5G won’t do you any harm either. There’s more cancerous radiation that you can get from tanning under the sun for 30 minutes than you can ever get from using your 5G-capable phone!
As well as health concerns, many Kiwis are hesitant to completely switch to 5G because their older 4G-capable phones may not work anymore. However, that’s not true at all!
Aside from rolling out 5G networks throughout the country, the NZ government is improving 4G networks at the same time. This is especially true in rural areas, so that more and more Kiwis can connect to fast and stable mobile networks.
Plus, the government doesn’t plan on phasing out 4G anytime soon. You can still use your 3G or 4G-capable phones without worries, and they will continue to function just fine.
Do you want more sunny days in your area? Perhaps, you want to limit the effects of climate change? Unfortunately, 5G can’t help!
This theory stemmed from the closure of a weather facility in Alaska named High-frequency Active Auroral Research Program (HAARP). The facility studies the ionosphere, where most alleged “5G satellites” are also located. The theory also states that HAARP uses these satellites to control minds via extremely low-frequency radars.
The catch is, most true 5G cell towers — which deliver 5G signals — are located on land! This is because 5G waves are the most effective over short distances; putting the satellites up in the sky will only make the technology less effective.
While it’s true that 5G is about faster mobile internet, it’s not everything that 5G has to offer. It’s also capable of mass connectivity! One tower can connect up to one million devices per square kilometre without losing speed and reliability in the network.
Best of all, 5G delivers ultra-low latency internet, which translates to quicker response time with less loading and buffering. This is particularly useful in emerging technologies like augmented reality and robotics that require data transmission at lightning-fast speeds.
If 5G has already rolled out in your area, it’s highly recommended to purchase a plan from the leading mobile providers in NZ now! To get 5G mobile plans with big discounts, make sure to save time, money, and effort by comparing your options with glimp.
