Compare internet plans New Zealand with ease: Glimp is the name of the game!

A thorough comparison of the internet plans New Zealand is indeed a good idea, particularly in terms of availability. Not all broadband plans are available everywhere; therefore, your location should be the starting point of your search.

In addition, it is desirable to keep in mind that "ADSL" covers two terms: ADSL2+ and ADSL. The first delivers up to 24 Mbps broadband speeds and the latter - around 2 Mbps speeds. To qualify for an ADSL2+ package, you will need to be located no more than 2km away from a broadband cabinet. ADSL packages allow for up to 6km distances - hence the broadband speed difference. Nationwide, the average is ca. 10 Mbps download and 1 Mbps upload.

Compare ADSL and ADSL2+ plans at Glimp to find the most convenient option for you! Before that, however, remember that with ADSL download speed is always much higher than upload speed. Mind your surfing habits and the number of devices  to access the web - maximum speeds apply to one device only. The more devices, the slower your internet speed will get.

Best unlimited internet NZ? A tough as it appears, this question gets easily answered at Glimp! Compare ADSL providers in a flash!

Many providers offer unlimited internet NZ packages and additional benefits to boot. Some packages come with one free move of address within 12 months, while others allocate a local phone number and transfer all calls to mobile. Most packages guarantee no throttling (your speed will not slow down) and payments on account or as you go.

Are you interested in long-term ADSL broadband plans? This is the next question you should ask yourself, since the offer is diverse. Generally speaking, ADSL contracts may cover anywhere from 6 to 24 months, with some providers offering no-term contracts as well. Think this one through! If you are planning to move house or switch to a faster broadband package at the earliest opportunity, better opt for a no-term or short-term package regardless of the benefits accompanying long-term packages. Namely, among broadband providers, early termination fees are common practice rather than an exception.

If you are uncertain as to the specific broadband type that would meet your needs in the long run, here is what you may choose from and what you actually need depending on your online habits.

ADSL, short for Asymmetrical Digital Subscriber Line, will suffice if you download a lot of data but don't upload much. VDSL, short for Very High Bit-Rate Digital Subscriber Line, typically has 3 times faster download speeds (15 Mbps to 70 Mbps) than DSL and upload speeds from 5 Mbps to 10 Mbps.

Getting the best of the ADSL broadband plans: factors to consider.

Apart from your long-term plans, various other factors should also be taken into consideration when choosing among ADSL broadband plans. As stated  above, the number of devices to access the web is all but unimportant, as your internet speed will depend on it. Contrary to popular belief, though, not all devices need share bandwidth equally. Many routers nowadays come with the bandwidth control option, which allows for assigning a specific minimum and maximum bandwidth for each device consuming the connection. Further out, many programs also have this option; you may limit them to running at the desired speed. Hence, if VDSL is not available in your area, it's not all gloom and doom.

Basic internet services, such as email and VOIP require 1 Mbps to 4 Mbps speeds. 4 Mbps to 6 Mbps will suffice for limited file sharing, whereas you will need 6 Mbps to 10 Mbps for video-on-demand services. Streaming HD video is somewhat more demanding - recommended bandwidth is at least 10 Mbps.

A simple calculation will make it easy for you to understand the exact prerequisites for your daily online activities.  A Mbps (megabit per second) is one eight of a byte (B, as in MB), so, to transfer a 1MB file, it will take it 8 seconds. Multiply this by your actual internet speed, and you will get the idea on how long it will take you to download/upload data.

Last but not least, the fact that most ISPs guarantee no throttling makes things considerably easier. The ominous bandwidth throttling has known to cause harm to many a business user, as, in times of congestion, the ISP may decide to limit all traffic or certain traffic types (streaming is usually first on the list). Therefore, make sure to look for packages with the no throttling clause - there are many of those around.
